Hopefully any questions that have about the Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship will be answered below.
If having read through this section you still have questions then please feel free to email us at the address below and we will endeavour to reply promptly.
What is the Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship ?
The championship is the official "British" Cross Counrty competition, sanctioned by the MSA (the governing body of motorsport in the UK). The championship aims to find the best driver/vehicle combinations in Britain, to become the Britpart MSA Cross Country Champion.
The championship is comprised of six two-day Competitive Safaris.
The emphasis is firmly on good value for money and having fun. Spread right around the UK the championship takes in some wildly varying terrain from the rocky slopes of Wales, to the moorland of Scotland.
Who is allowed to compete?
Anyone with a National A or above Competition License issued by the MSA.
For information regarding the criteria for obtaining a National A competition licence contact the MSA (www.msauk.org)
Can I compete if I don't have a National A licence?
There will be a clubman's competition on both the Saturday or Sunday of each round. You can enter on the Sunday only of each event for £75 or the whole weekend for £150. There will, however, be no clubman's championship.
In order to get the best value for money it is well worth entering the National A Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship, for just £800 for all six two-day events.
If you have competed in competitive safaris before, acquiring the appropriate licence should just be a formality. If you are new to the sport, we recommend that you join one of the many off road clubs in the UK and try your hand at some local or regional events first to gain experience and the required signatures to proceed to the British Championship.
If you have any questions or are having difficulty with getting a licence, contact us.
Who is organising the championship?
The championship is being organised by the Marches 4x4 Motorsport team comprising of many well respected names in the UK off roading scene.
The team is headed by the irrepressible Selwyn Kendrick who is more experienced than he would care to admit in all aspects of off road motorsport, from competing to organising.
What are Competitive Safaris?
Competitive Safari's are the UK's off road motorsport equivalent of a multi-use (or single venue) stage rally. A course is set out of between 4 and 12 miles and then the competitors are given a set number of laps to achieve within a certain time frame.
Each of the laps is timed and the lowest aggregate time at the end of the day wins. The competition is usually split up into various classes to enable different vehicles and budgets to compete against each other.
The Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship is the premier championship for Competitive Safaris in the UK. Similar club-based and regional championships also exist.
How much does it cost?
The 2008 Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship has its sights firmly set on being the best value for money national championship in the UK. For an entry fee of only £800 for the whole year the competitor gets six high quality, high mileage competitive safaris, twelve days of solid racing! That is the equivalent of just just over £66.00 per day!
What can I win?
The title of Britpart MSA Cross Country Champion is up for grabs, but there is no prize money to be won. There will, though, be a series of much sought after trophies, class awards and some other goodies.
What sort of vehicle do I need to compete?
Any vehicle that complies with the MSA's regulations (www.msauk.org) for Competitive Safari vehicles and the championship's own regulations. In short virtually any off road vehicle is eligible provided it is equipped with the appropriate safety equipment such as a roll cage, safety harnesses, fire extinguisher etc.
For further details on this and our control tyres, please contact our eligibility scrutineer, Robbo Aliperti on 07816 135238.
Where can I go for more help?
For help on the championship itself you could do worse than contacting us by the usual methods. If you are after help with the sport in general then by all means contact us, but you may also find it useful to join one of the many specialist clubs.
Tell me about the control tyres.
We are committed to protecting our environment, and have introduced control tyres for the BCCC
These are Matador- Izzarda AT; General Tire– Grabber AT 2; BFGoodrich- All Terrain T/A and Kumho– Road Venture AT KL78 .
How can I help?
The championship would not be able to run without the support of a whole host of volunteers. We are constantly on the lookout for responsible (but fun!) people to assist in the running of the championship. Marshalling is just one way in which you can help.
I would like to marshal, how do I go about it?
The Britpart MSA Cross Country Championship relies upon a whole host of volunteers and more than anyone else we rely on our marshals.
Marshals are a group of people who come out to ensure the safe running of events. They deal with everything from setting out the course to spectator control.
Marshalling is great fun - there is the opportunity to do some off roading on some of the best land in the country for free and helping out with the event in an official capacity is immensely rewarding.
What is more there is the opportunity to meet up with other like minded people and have a great time.
All the Championship rounds are two day events (not including set-up) so there is always plenty of time for a bit of socialising as well as officiating.
You do not need a 4x4 and free camping is provided at all events.
For more information visit the Marshals page on this site
How is the timing done?
The timing and the results for 2008 where handled by Kevin Chaffey and his team who are experts in motorsport timing.
The specific timing system that is being employed is very similar to that used on most other rally's. We have a start and flying finish crews with beams and PMR links back to the Timekeeper.
If the question that you require is not found here then please feel free to contact me at chris@thecree.demon.co.uk and I will forward to the relevant person.
